PANAJI: Two roll-on-roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferryboats are anticipated to be introduced by the River Navigation Department on the Ribandar-Chorao route starting on February 1.
A government official stated, “We have tentatively finalized February 1 to launch two Ro-Ro ferryboats on the Ribandar-Chorao route.”
Vehicles may more easily drive directly on and off these ferryboats thanks to ramps on both sides.
We currently run six ferryboats along this route. We will be able to employ Ro-Ro ferryboats on any other route once we introduce them,” the official stated.
During peak hours, from 7 am to 9 pm, the Ro-Ro ferries will run on this route. Because there is less traffic on the route at night, the same old ferry boats will continue to operate.
For the following five years, the Ro-Ro boats will be run on a build-and-operate basis. “These will be faster and more efficient, and they can hold almost 14 four-wheelers,” the official stated.
