BENAULIM: Royla Fernades today filed her nomination as an Independent candidate for the Benaulim ZP constituency for the bye polls to be held on June 23.
Today is the last date for filing of nominations. Yesterday AAP alliance candidate Joseph Pimenta filed his nomination.
Days after the Lok Sabha results, doubts are now being raised whether the alliance would continue in future.
While AAP has officially declared Orlim social worker Joseph Pimenta as the INDIA Alliance candidate for the Benaulim ZP Bypoll, Congress leader Royala Fernandes has thrown her hat in the ring as an independent candidate.
Amidst signs of resentment amongst Congress workers over leaving the Benaulim Zilla Panchayat seat to the Aam Aadmi Party to contest the June 23 by-poll, the Opposition leader said the cadre needs to understand that the Alliance was stitched in the spirit of saving Democracy, the Constitution and Goa from the corrupt BJP government.
“The need of the hour is to unite and avert multi-cornered contests, which will only help the BJP. We have to leave behind our differences. We have to sacrifice in the interest of the State,” Yuri said.
