New Delhi: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again proved his ability to deliver on the biggest stage, smashing a breathtaking 94 off just 29 balls to lead India A to a commanding 66 run victory over Sri Lanka A in the final of the tri-nation series. The explosive knock came after a challenging tournament for the 15 year old, who had struggled for runs in the earlier matches.
Reflecting on his turnaround, Sooryavanshi revealed that a crucial conversation with India A coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar helped restore his confidence. With runs proving hard to come by, the young opener was encouraged to trust his natural instincts and avoid overthinking. The advice proved invaluable as he played with freedom and aggression in the title clash, producing one of the finest innings of the tournament.
The teenage sensation admitted that conditions in Sri Lanka were significantly different from those he experienced during the IPL. The slower and more demanding surfaces forced him to adjust his approach, and he acknowledged that trying too hard initially affected his performances. However, patience and belief eventually paid off when it mattered most.
The triumph marks another milestone in a remarkable year for Sooryavanshi, who is now on the verge of making his senior India debut. Following an outstanding IPL campaign in which he scored 776 runs for the Rajasthan Royals, he earned his maiden call up to India’s T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England.
Adding to the memorable week, Sooryavanshi received his first Team India jersey, a moment he described as the fulfilment of a lifelong dream. The youngster spoke emotionally about wearing the national colours, recalling how representing India had been his ultimate ambition since he first picked up a cricket bat.
With the coveted No. 3 jersey now in his possession, Sooryavanshi prepares for the next chapter of his career. While competition for a place in the playing XI remains intense, India’s newest batting prodigy has already shown that he possesses the talent and temperament to thrive on the biggest stages.
