COLOMBO: Sri Lanka cricketing legend Sanath Jayasuriya has been appointed as a Cricket Consultant to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
With his appointment being made with immediate effect, the former cricketer will be working directly with the SLC’s High-Performance Center.
The SLC’s High-Performance Center along with the Coaching staff faced severe backlash recently as a result of the national team’s and Under-19 team’s embarrassing defeats in recent tournaments.
The national team faced embarrassing defeats in the Asia Cup, as well as the World Cup 2023, which resulted in Sri Lanka missing on qualifying for the Champions Trophy.
Sri Lanka’s Under-19 team has also faced a similar situation in the Under-19 Asia Cup tournament, getting knocked out.
Sanath Jayasuriya’s appointment will see him reviewing and analyzing current cricket structures to design a clear and effective development plan to ensure excellence and clarity of purpose at all levels of the Sri Lanka cricket system, such as from junior national levels to the academy and up to the national team.
