VASCO: Sao Joao, the feast of St John the Baptist, was celebrated at various locations in Vasco with great traditional rituals and religious fervour on Monday
A lot of people were seen with “Koppels” adorned with flowers and fruits on their heads and jumping in the wells as a part of the feast celebrations.
Some places had artificial rain showers and rain dances with live music from bands and DJs along with an array of traditional Goan dishes served in a buffet.
The Sao Joao celebrations at Vasco saw huge people from across all Communities coming together and enjoying the feast while chanting Viva Re Sao Joao.
Celebrations began with prayers at the church followed by a brass band leading the procession to the venue or Wells in the area.
One such function and traditional celebration of the Sao Joao feast was held at Vaddem in Vasco where most of the people were seen enjoying a jump in the wells.
Speaking on the occasion Social Activist Gracias Coutinho said the Sao Joao was celebrated at Vaddem and people of all Communities participated in the feast
“This Sao Joao Function here is famous in our locality. We offer prayers at the Cross and then start with our rituals. We have around 23 wells in this area but we will jump in one of the wells to celebrate the function” said Coutinho.
