CANACONA: Sara Shamba Naik Gessai, submitted her nomination papers for the post of Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson on Monday.
The nominations for the post of CMC Chairperson which has been vacant after the incumbent Ramakant Naik Gaonkar resigned a week ago, will be open till noon of Wednesday (29th May) and the vacant post of CMC Chairperson will be filled through an election that will be held on 30th May.
Sara Shamba Naik Desai submitted the nomination form to Chief Officer Mangaldas Gaonkar in the presence of the 7 ruling group councillors of the 12 CMC councillors which came together 3 years ago, while forming the new council after the municipal general elections.
The 7-member councillors group consists of Simon Rebello, Ramakant Naik Gaunkar, Sara Naik Dessai, Laxuman Pagui, Amita Pagi, Narcisco Fernandes and Gandesh Madganvkar.
As decided at the beginning, the post of Chairman and Vice-Chairman is to be shared and rotated amongst these 7 councillors.
Though two more days to go for the nomination to end, it is highly unexpected that any more nominations are likely to be filed against the ruling group nominations, particularly since post-Lok Sabha polls, all the 12 CMC Councilors have vouched for the BJP lok sabha candidate of the BJP’s Canacona Municipal Council. The ruling councillors, however, stick to its original 7 members group and says will complete the tenure as only ruling group of councillors.
Including the outgoing Chairperson Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, Palolem-Ourem Councilor Simon Rebelo has already occupied the Chairperson Chair, while incumbent Vice-Chairperson Narcisco Fernandes, Amita Pagi, and Laxuman Pagi has occupied the Vice-Chairperson chair, leaving only Gandesh Madgaonkar for the post of Vice-Chairperson.
Incidentally, once elected Sara Naik Dessai is likely to occupy the Chairperson chair for around 18 months of the remaining 24 months and hand over the baton to giant killer Palolem councillor Laxuman (Bakal) Pagui for the remaining 6 months of the tenure.
