CANACONA:Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) of Shristhal village thanked government for recognising a woman from Khotigao for her ethnic art and talent to weave traditional pine, bamboo and grass sleeping Mats.
On the occasion of celebrations of International Women Day by BJP’s Women Wing, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, felicitated Smt Saraswati Kustha Velip of Khotigao, Canacona with the Award of Sushma Swaraj for her ethnic practice and her God given talent to make Traditional Mats (Xendri/Mandri).
Incidentally, Saraswati came to limelight at the recently held Lokosthav-23 at Amone, where BMC Shristhal on behalf of Goa Biodiversity Board had a stall where local artists showed/demonstrated their talent in preparations of local artefacts. In a special attration during the lokosthav, Saraswati demonstrated how a traditional Sleeping Mat is prepared using Palms, Bamboo and Grass, where many visitors appreciated her showering praises for her traditional art and talent.
BMC Shristhal Chairman Vinay Tubki congratulating Velip , said, ‘it’s the work of BMC to give necessary inputs to preserve the age old traditions and its arts amongst the village folks.
In return, Sawaswati thsanking BMC Shristhal for bringing her talent out in open earning the prestigious Sushma Swaraj Puraskar.
