BICHOLIM: A Scrap yard at Vithalapur in Bicholim taluka caught fire on Tursday midnight causing a loss of Rs. 15 lakhs. However, firemen saved property worth Rs. 25 lakhs.
According to Bicholim fire brigade sources call firemen received the call at about 3.55 am during wee hours of Tuesday midnight in which Bhonsle metal mart belonging to Ramdas Bhonsle suddenly caught with a fire. Materials like scrap utensils, arsenal bottles corrugated boxes, newspaper raddi, mixtures, automobile spare parts and other scrap materials worth Rs. 15 lakhs were gutted in fire.
However, timely arrival of firemen team avoided further loss of Rs. 25 lakhs. Rest of scrap materials, surrounding residential houses, a government primary school and arabic english tuition classes were saved from ambit of fire. Three fire tenders each from Bicholim, Valpoi and Ponda had to be summoned.
A team of around 23 firemen from all three fire stations under the guidance of SFO Shripad Gawas and divisional officer Rajendra Haldankar fought for nearly six and half hours tenders from Bicholim to extinguish fire
