RUMDAWADA: A senior citizen from Jetty-Rumdawada, near Bus Stand No. 2, has lodged a formal complaint against a Public Works Department (PWD) Water Supply meter reader, alleging refusal to deliver water bills at consumers’ doorsteps and causing inconvenience to elderly residents.
Satyawati Umaji Sonurlekar, a resident of the area and a water consumer for the past 32 years, has sought action against the concerned employee, alleging uncooperative behaviour and failure to consider the difficulties faced by senior citizens.
According to the complaint, the meter reader allegedly leaves water bills inside meter boxes instead of delivering them to consumers’ doorsteps. When asked to deliver the bills at the entrance of their homes, the employee reportedly claims that it is not his responsibility.
Residents said the hilly terrain of Jetty-Rumdawada has compounded the problem, as several water meters are located downhill and some distance from house entrances. This reportedly forces elderly residents to walk down to retrieve their bills or wait for family members to return home and collect them.
Sonurlekar has urged the department to take appropriate action against the concerned employee and resolve the issue at the earliest.
In her complaint, she has also sought a written response within 15 days, warning that she would approach higher authorities and file an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, to seek details about the meter reader’s official duties and the action taken on her grievance.
Residents have appealed to the PWD Water Supply Department to intervene and ensure that senior citizens and other consumers do not face unnecessary hardship in accessing essential public services.
