Panaji: Sherwin Shaw Falcons and Baale Tigers made confident starts to their Panjim Gymkhana Members League PGML 5.0 campaign, registering identical 23 run victories in their respective T20 matches played on Sunday at the Panjim Gymkhana ground in Campal.
In the opening match of the day, Sherwin Shaw Falcons produced an aggressive batting display to post a commanding total of 211 runs, being bowled out in 19.5 overs. Tunish Sawkar led the charge with a fluent 55, setting the tempo early in the innings. He was well supported by Saif Ali Karajgi, who contributed 36, while Raunak Pednekar added a brisk 35. Madar Basappa also chipped in with useful runs to ensure the Falcons crossed the 200 run mark. For Desserts and More Avengers, Muktiar Kadri emerged as the most effective bowler with two wickets, while Mohan Kolkar, Ojas, Mrunmay Das and Vikas Shetty picked up a wicket each.
In reply, Desserts and More Avengers put up a spirited fight but fell short, finishing on 188 for 9 in their 20 overs. Ojas played a valiant knock of 54, keeping his side in contention, while Amod Borkar scored 40 and Muktiar Kadri added a valuable 35. However, the Falcons bowlers held their composure in the death overs. Sandesh Barekar led the bowling effort with three wickets, while Tunish Sawkar and Sazu Naik struck at crucial moments to seal the win.
The second match saw Baale Tigers defend a modest total with disciplined bowling. Batting first, the Tigers were dismissed for 173 in 20 overs, with Dhiraj Phadte anchoring the innings with a solid 51. Samar Dubhashi provided support with 36, while Prasad Patil chipped in with 22. For RC Goa, Ramnath Gaonkar impressed with the ball, claiming four wickets.
RC Goa’s chase began positively but lost momentum as wickets fell at regular intervals. Ramnath Gaonkar top scored with 46, while Dattesh Priolkar added 33, but the side was bowled out for 150 in 19.4 overs. Prasad Patil starred for Baale Tigers with four wickets, supported by timely strikes from Dhiraj Phadte and Harshal Shah, ensuring another 23 run victory.
Both Sherwin Shaw Falcons and Baale Tigers will look to build on their winning momentum as PGML 5.0 gathers pace.
