SIRIDAO: The wall that has been built on the beachfront, blocking the view of the sea, is opposed by all of the residents of Sirdao. They have also asked that the tourism department take tough measures against the guilty parties and take steps to stop such incidents from happening again.
Along with the locals, the Sarpanch of the Sirdao panchayat inspected the contentious wall. According to the villagers, the sarpanch and deputy sarpanch have promised a NOC (No Objection Certificate) for the wall’s construction. They interpret this as a sign of concession to the owners rather than the imposition of stringent measures.
Villagers expressed their frustration over the absence of the wall’s owners during the inspection and criticized the panchayat for not involving them in discussions about the village’s issues. “We are fishermen, and we understand the challenges we face today.
First, they targeted the Bambolim area, making it difficult for us to do business, and now our village is at risk. This village is all we have. If we remain silent, outsiders will start to dominate us,” a local fisherman said.
He also highlighted parking issues, explaining that if the wall is permitted, it will exacerbate the already limited parking space, leading to severe traffic congestion as people park on the roads.
The villagers have urged the Sarpanch not to issue any NOCs for activities that could destroy the village’s serene beauty because they are adamant that no illegal constructions should be permitted in the future. Their requests are a direct result of their strong desire to protect the village’s environment and way of life.
