It’s election season in India and Goa and people in hordes have been venting their ire on social media. In India people unhappy with the government and its functioning have been taking to social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and twitter on every issue – though many of them do not even a proper knowledge of the subject they are speaking about.
Venting on social media refers to expressions of our emotions, frustrations, thoughts, or grievances openly and publicly on social media platforms.
Sharing personal experiences, problems, or feelings with a wide audience, often to seek, support, validation, or let off anger or frustration over an issue with an individual or an organisation.
Venting mostly includes challenges to individual thoughts (i.e., relationship conflicts with individuals and organisations stress at work or annoyances, anger, and sadness about a prevailing issue). Venting may provide a positive feeling for people’s thoughts, but it can also put people at risk of being judged, misunderstood, or overshared.
However, many times the people venting their ire may be successful in gaining the attention of the intended people but it may bear no fruits.
For example, there are many people commenting on the Smart City Panaji issue and slamming Panaji MLA Babush Monseratte. But the venting has no effect on Babush as he wins the Taleigao panchayat polls 11-0 today.
So what are they venting for? Due to their frustration, these people blame the media, politicians and so on but what is the final result? Nothing, the media houses continue to mint money and politicians continue to get elected.
Babush’s victory in Taleigao is a tight slap on the social media trolls who criticised him as people have chosen him as the right person to rule Taleigao.
This article is not an effort to back Babush Monseratte but to understand how trolling does not have any effect and how trollers themself become a joke.
If there had so much frustration in the minds of the people of Panaji and Taleigao, Babush would have lost 0-11 but his win proves people of Panaji and Taleigao continue to back him.
So this proves there are very few people from Taleigao who are unhappy with Babush or have the people making comments on social media are not from Panaji and Taleigao or maybe sitting somewhere in London and venting out their frustration.
The Smart City mess has affected only the people of Panaji and Taleigao and maybe people who work in Panaji. Rest all are the people trying to gain attention on social media by making comments.
Agreed, Babush’s panel which has been ruling Taleigao for more than two decades now, has converted Taleigao into a concrete jungle but there has also been development of better roads, water supply and electricity.
Why do people vent on social media?
Maybe these people have more free time so they vent their anger on social media
Internet packages are cheapest in India compared to anywhere in the world
These people may already frustrated due to their family issues and hence they take to social media
DRAWBACKS OF VENTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA:
In early observations, most people who did this didn’t fully understand or even comprehend the magnitude of how far their online rants in the heat of their anger could actually reach and inevitable feelings of regret and remorse in their afterthoughts would work to curb their erratic behaviour, but I’m convinced that some just don’t care how their mental instability is reflected online which is a good thing in a sense because their online behaviour is definitely flagged, tracked, and monitored for the safety and welfare of others. It has been since the beginning of online communications.
It’s helpful and insightful to observe and monitor what types of unstable mentalities are lurking about because those with mental instability and irrational behaviours rarely ever see themselves as having a problem. They won’t willingly call themselves a “crazy” person. They usually think everyone else is “crazy.” Mentally unstable people don’t possess that sense of self-awareness to admit that about themselves. Hence, why they rant and criticize others vehemently.
