MARGAO: Sunita Sawant, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for South Goa, announced that the police have validated about 39,000 tenants as part of an ongoing tenant verification exercise that is being carried out throughout the South district.
The program seeks to improve law and order, reduce crime, and increase security by compiling a complete database of renters living in the South Goa district.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant gave the go-ahead for the extensive tenant verification campaign.
“We need to use the tenant verification exercise as a crucial tool to monitor the floating population and protect our citizens,” SP Sawant stated. Citing difficulties encountered, she stated that 33 homes
Owners did not give the required details on their tenants. According to the South SP, complaints on non-compliance in these cases have been sent to the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
Additionally, SP Sawant added that the police have reached out to labour contractors, landlords, and local panchayats, seeking them to provide details of their workers for tenant verification.
“During the tenant verification exercise, we have also added a parameter to include bank details,” she continued.
The public has been asked to abide by the verification criteria by the police. The free tenant verification process will go on in the upcoming months.
