PANAJI: Cyber Crime Cell of Goa police has asked Goans to be alert about job scams wherein youth are lured with lucrative jobs abroad, taken to foreign countries and pushed into cybercrime.
SP Cyber Crime Rahul Gupta asked citizens to be alert if any of their family members are working in countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos or Vietnam.
Based on a complaint filed by three such persons from Goa who had managed to escape from the clutches of these gangs, Goa police have booked a lady from Quepem and arrested two persons from Karnataka a few days back.
The accused are identified as Nasir Ahmed from Belgaum and Mohammed Hazi whose registered office address was Mumbai but operated from Bijapur.
According to Gupta, the victim was brought to Dana Technologies, a business engaged in fraudulent operations that include fabricating social media profiles to trick unsuspecting people into falling for bitcoin trading schemes, when he arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on April 11, 2024.
The police told the media, “This victim returned in May 2024,” and added that Tigadi and Haji, who are both from Karnataka, had been taken into custody.
“The accused admitted to perpetrating this crime in concert with individuals in various regions of the nation during questioning. Their cell phones, which had damning material, were found, and the bank accounts that were used to collect the funds were frozen,’ SP added.
He also said that the illicit recruitment network is being dismantled and other implicated individuals are being tracked down.
