PANAJI: Sporting Club Davorlim secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over CAC Cansaulim in the quarterfinals of the Benaulim Panchayat Cup, advancing to the semifinals in a closely contested match held at the St. John the Baptist Panchayat Ground in Benaulim.
The match commenced with Davorlim displaying superior midfield control, orchestrated by Ajay Raj and William Niasso, who dictated the tempo and created several scoring opportunities. Despite their dominance, Cansaulim’s goalkeeper Jonito was in exceptional form, thwarting multiple attempts and keeping the scoreline level at halftime.
The breakthrough came early in the second half when Prince of Davorlim scored a header in the 46th minute, catching the Cansaulim keeper off guard. Cansaulim responded with increased urgency, with Aron and Caddy linking up well in midfield, but their efforts were stifled by Davorlim’s resolute defense, led by Sanju Trikonni. The match concluded with Davorlim maintaining their slender lead, ensuring their progression to the semifinals.
