PANAJI: The Goa Legislative Assembly witnessed arguements on the issue of rehabiliation of Goa Medical College (GMC) vendors who were razed for being illegal.
St Cruz MLA Antonio Fernandes and St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira were demanding answers as to why still no action was taken on rehabilating the vendors while they were promised to which CM Sawant told the house that the issue will be solved.
“Today i demand the CM to give me an answer on the rehabilitation of vendors outside GMC, people are crying today and pointing fingers at us,” said Fernandes
Fernandes said he has explained the highway plan to the CM and highlighted areas where the vendors could be rehabilitated.
“I had even called up the Collector and asked him to hold a meeting with the GMC officials along with the MLAs and sarpanches to chalk out rehabilitation plan,” he said.
He said that in the plan prepared by him and which was awaiting approval from the government, the entire stretch of 80 metres was to be used for constructing 2×2 mtr cubicles so that all the 38 affected persons were accommodated.
However, the government action to rehabilitate the five Deendayal kiosk owners has meant that of the 80 meters, 20 meters is already been used. Now, only 60 meters remain and in that space 33 cubicles have to be built to accommodate the rest of the kiosk owners and fruit vendors,” he added
Meanwhile, CM Sawant assured the house the issue will be solved at earliest.
