CALANGUTE: In the wake of rising touts, Sarpanch of Calangute Joseph Sequeira today said that starting in October, tourists coming to Calangute will have to produce hotel booking receipts to enter Calangute.
“Calangute VP to enforce strict rules to curb menace by tourists. Starting in October, tourists will need a hotel reservation to enter the area. Checkpoints will be set up at all four entry points,” said Sequeira.
Sequeira has promised that there won’t be any touts on the streets of Calangute come next season.
Sequeira declared that the panchayat would take strong action against illegal businesses operating in the well-known beach village in conjunction with the police.
“The Inspector of Calangute Police has promised to file complaints and make arrests against the touts,” he said.
He further said that The tempo traveller that we have scheduled will be utilized to pick up these touts. Sequeira claimed that there won’t be touts in Calangute during the upcoming season.
Sequeira said, “Eighty per cent of our guesthouses are given on rent,” in response to the concern about local guesthouses being rented out to outsiders. For this, we must hold our own people accountable. I make a plea to the locals to manage the guesthouses independently rather than renting them out.
Sequeira’s effort to keep Calangute a top tourist destination and improve the whole visitor experience are the goals of their cleanup efforts in the village.
