VASCO: In a supposedly self-recorded video, Police Constable Prathamesh Gawade, who committed suicide on Friday night after jumping off the new Zuari Bridge near Cortalim, claimed that two female coworkers—Priti Chavan and Tanishka Chavan—had mentally tortured him. He also accused Akash Chavan, Tanishka’s brother, of torturing him.
Tanishka was his sister-in-law, and Priti was his wife.
Gawade, who was just assigned to the Vasco Railway Police Station, stated that he was harassed because of his friendship with Priti and the family’s displeasure, which finally drove him to take this extreme action.
The video, which is currently making the rounds on social media, shows Gawade explaining how he and Priti got married civilly but that she allegedly asked him to commit suicide since her family didn’t approve of their union. He further said that one of the main reasons for his decision was the constant threats he received from Tanishka and Akash.
Dhiraj Devidas, PI of the Mormugao Police Station, confirmed that an inquiry is in progress by saying, “We are verifying the claims and facts from the video right now; further action will be initiated based on the findings.”
Concerns regarding harassment and mental health within the police force have been sparked by the incident, leading to calls for improved support networks to assist staff in overcoming these obstacles.
In the video, Prathamesh also pleaded with his parents for forgiveness and urged all Goans to treat him fairly.
Prathamesh’s family finds it difficult to meet their basic needs. His mother provides for the family by making snacks and other foods and running a milk business, while his father works at Cuncolim Industrial Estate.
Internet users have called on Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to order the top police officers to conduct a thorough investigation and apprehend the offenders in order to provide justice to Prathamesh’s family.
According to information obtained, Prathamesh joined the police force at the age of 20 to support his family after graduating from Vasco Shipbuilding College with a degree in marine engineering.
