BICHOLIM: Subhash Velingkar has described the campaign for granting Marathi official language status in Goa as a “final fight”, urging supporters of the language to unite and use their voting power in the upcoming elections to press for their demand.
Addressing a gathering organised by the Marathi Rajbhasha Nirdhar Samiti in Bicholim, Velingkar accused successive Congress and BJP governments of neglecting Marathi and failing to fulfil the demand for its official language status.
He called upon Marathi supporters to stand together and make the issue a priority in the electoral process, emphasising the need for collective action to achieve recognition for the language.
The gathering also saw attendees take a collective pledge in support of the movement and resolve to participate in large numbers in the Marathi Maha Melava scheduled for November.
The meeting highlighted the continuing campaign for official language status for Marathi in Goa, with organisers seeking to mobilise supporters and strengthen the movement ahead of the proposed mega gathering.
