OLD GOA: In a significant development in the Old Goa POCSO case, police have arrested suspended Crime Branch Police Inspector Vikas Deykar (40) and Rajani Palekar (37), a resident of Vasco, following further interrogation in connection with FIR No. 132/2026.
According to the North District Police, both accused had initially joined the investigation after being served notices under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
However, during subsequent interrogation, investigators reportedly found material inconsistencies in their statements, with both allegedly failing to provide satisfactory explanations on crucial aspects of the case.
Police said their arrest was necessary in view of the material gathered during the investigation, their alleged involvement in the offence and the need for custodial interrogation.
The police also expressed apprehensions that the accused could influence witnesses or tamper with evidence if allowed to remain at liberty.
Both accused were accordingly placed under arrest. Further investigation is underway.
