PONDA: An altercation between a resident and pump operator attached to the Public Works Department (PWD) Govind Gaonkar escalated when the PWD employees demanded the arrest of the assailant.
Staff members and the victim’s family demonstrated outside the Ponda Police Station, arguing that Gaonkar’s attack was unfair because of a minor disagreement about water supply.
PWD employees escalated the situation by threatening to cut off the water supply to the entire Ponda taluka unless the accused was taken into custody.
Although the police have acknowledged the gravity of the situation, many are afraid that the conflict could impact the taluka’s water supply as a whole. There hasn’t been an arrest made yet.
