New Delhi: Security forces have busted a suspected terrorist hideout in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district and recovered grenades, an AK-47 magazine and ammunition during a search operation in a forest area.
The operation was launched on Monday in the Chor Hill area of Panch Gabbar in Kotranka tehsil following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of a suspected hideout.
Personnel from the Indian Army’s 60 Rashtriya Rifles cordoned off the forest area and conducted an extensive search. During the operation, the security personnel discovered a natural cave that was allegedly being used as a hideout.
A search of the cave led to the recovery of nine under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) grenades, one AK-47 magazine and 18 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.
The recovered arms and ammunition were seized by the security forces for further investigation.
Officials indicated that the timely detection of the hideout could have prevented a potential attempt to carry out terrorist activities in the region. Security agencies have repeatedly highlighted the challenges posed by natural caves and other concealed locations in forested areas, which can be used by terrorists to evade detection.
The discovery has prompted further searches in the surrounding forest to determine whether additional weapons, ammunition or other suspicious material are hidden in the area.
A case has been registered in connection with the recovery, and the investigation is underway to establish the origin of the seized material and identify those responsible for concealing it.
Security forces continue to maintain surveillance across sensitive areas of Rajouri district as part of efforts to detect suspected terrorist hideouts and prevent possible attacks.
