VALPOI: The assurances of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane have fallen flat as the promised repairs of the damaged houses due to July 23, 34 floods are yet to see the light of the day.
A few houses in Sattari were severely damaged and washed away. Sawant and Rane had assured to look into teh matter and get the homes repaired as early as possible.
But that seemed only an oral assurance as two months down the line, not a stone has moved.
As a result, the families had to celebrate Ganesh out in the open or broken houses.
Suresh Gaonkar from the Kankire area of Sattari taluka celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi by covering the space in front of his house.
To save the idol from rain, they covered it with a tarpaulin.
Suresh Gaonkar said he wanted Ganesh Bappa to come to these houses after the government constructed the house before Ganesh Chaturthi.
A mandap was erected, and idols of Ganesha were worshipped in it.
The citizens were highly critical of the government’s delay in implementing the assurance.
“If the house was built on time, the family would have celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi in the house and not in the open today,” said the citizens of the area.
