New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has raised concerns over reported threats targeting Kashmiri Pandits and called on police and intelligence agencies to investigate their origin.
Abdullah said the emergence of such threats was a serious matter and stressed that law enforcement authorities must respond promptly. He urged the police and intelligence agencies to examine the source of the warnings and take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of members of the Kashmiri Pandit community.
The Chief Minister recalled an incident around two years ago in which Kashmiri Pandit employees were targeted, saying the episode had created difficulties for the administration.
He emphasised that threats against the community should not be treated lightly and that maintaining their security is the responsibility of the police and law and order machinery.
Abdullah also noted that the Lieutenant Governor’s administration is handling matters related to the community, but urged law enforcement agencies to give the latest concerns greater attention.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid renewed concerns over the security of Kashmiri Pandits, particularly employees and families who have returned to Jammu and Kashmir or continue to live and work in the region.
The reported threats have prompted calls for closer monitoring of intelligence inputs and timely preventive action. Authorities are expected to assess the credibility and origin of the warnings while taking steps to prevent any potential threat from escalating.
Abdullah’s intervention highlights the need for coordination between police, intelligence agencies and the administration to safeguard vulnerable communities and maintain confidence among Kashmiri Pandits living and working in Jammu and Kashmir.
