PORVORIM: Authorities have installed three speed cameras on the Porvorim elevated corridor following a fatal crash that claimed two lives and another accident reported shortly after the flyover was opened.
Two cameras have been positioned along the elevated corridor, while a third has been installed on the descending stretch towards Porvorim from Atal Setu. The notified speed limit on the stretch is 65 kmph, with the cameras aimed at detecting speeding and other traffic violations.
An intercepting radar had earlier been deployed as an immediate measure following the fatal accident.
Authorities have also temporarily prohibited two-wheelers from using the elevated corridor and closed service-road entry and exit points at Guirim and near Majestic as additional traffic-safety measures are being implemented.
The fatal crash occurred within around a day of the corridor being opened. According to the report, a car allegedly collided with a scooter from behind before the vehicles became involved in a collision with a truck near the Majestic-side junction.
Two people died in the crash, prompting authorities to introduce additional speed enforcement and traffic restrictions on the corridor.
