New Delhi:
“PM Modi to Launch Sweeping Development Projects in Delhi, Enhancing City’s Infrastructure and Living Standards”
In a significant boost to Delhi’s development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a series of pivotal projects on January 3, 2025, aimed at transforming the city’s infrastructure and improving the living conditions of its residents. This initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to ‘Housing for All’ and enhancing the ‘Ease of Living’ in the capital.
Inauguration of Swabhiman Apartments
Prime Minister Modi will begin by inaugurating 1,675 newly constructed flats at Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar, designed for the residents of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters. This project, undertaken by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), marks the successful completion of the second In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project. The flats are equipped with basic amenities, providing a better and healthier living environment for the beneficiaries. Notably, the residents will contribute less than 7% of the total construction cost, amounting to Rs 1.42 lakh plus Rs 30,000 for five years of maintenance, for each flat that costs the government approximately Rs 25 lakh.
Urban Redevelopment Projects
In addition to the housing initiative, PM Modi will also inaugurate two major urban redevelopment projects. The World Trade Centre (WTC) at Nauroji Nagar has replaced over 600 dilapidated quarters with state-of-the-art commercial towers, offering around 34 lakh square feet of premium commercial space. This project incorporates green building practices, including a zero-discharge concept, solar energy generation, and rainwater harvesting systems.
The General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar feature 28 towers housing over 2,500 modern residential units. These units are designed for efficient space utilization and are equipped with contemporary amenities, including rainwater harvesting systems, sewage and water treatment plants, and solar-powered waste compactors, promoting eco-conscious living.
Educational and Administrative Infrastructure
PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for several educational projects at Delhi University, including new academic blocks at the Eastern Campus in Surajmal Vihar and the Western Campus in Dwarka, as well as the Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh. These projects, worth over Rs 600 crore, are aimed at enhancing the educational infrastructure and providing state-of-the-art facilities.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the CBSE’s Integrated Office Complex at Dwarka, built at a cost of around Rs 300 crore. This eco-friendly building, designed to meet the Platinum Rating standards of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), includes offices, an auditorium, an advanced data center, and a comprehensive water management system.
Scheduled Events
The inauguration and foundation-laying ceremonies are scheduled to take place on January 3, with PM Modi visiting the sites at around 12:10 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. respectively. These projects underscore the government’s commitment to providing better living conditions and enhancing the overall development of Delhi.
