PONDA: Due to heavy rain, the Undai river at Dabal- Nirnakal has been flooded with a road has been submerged under water up to one meter.
Further, as the water level is rising the locals residing in fifteen houses fear flooding of their houses.
They recalled last year when their houses were flooded and the water level remained stagnant for two days. Even if little rain in their area they witness a flood in their area and fear that it may be caused due to release of the dam water upstream of the river.
Vishant Ganokar the house owner residing close to the bridge at Sateri Mal Nirankal said his family spend a sleepless night at the time of incessant rains. He said the flood is annual. He said last the water level was almost reached up to their roof and they were shifted.
Fearing flood they have already shifted essential household items to a safer place. He said Government should either help them in the reconstruction of their house with suitable height or give them a plot of land in a safe place.
The Villagers gathered at Nirankal near the flooded road said that the water of the Undai river culminates in the Dudhsagar river at another side, however, when Dudhsagar river overflows with flood water it halts the Undai river flow due to which it’s slowly drains and at its opposite side at Nirankal the flood is witnessed.
Another local said this is a tributary of Kali river and when dam water is released water level rise at Nirankal even if no rain in our area. They also suspected that the overflowing Salaulim dam water might be flowing into this river thus water level rises at Nirankal.
The Locals suggested that dredging of the Undai river as well as the Mhadei river basin should be undertaken so that rainwater drain immediately into the sea.
The Locals urged the government to find an immediate solution to the problem. Even if a flyover is constructed the traffic would become smooth but the problem of flooding 15 houses would not solve. Recently WRD Minister Subash Shirodkar and Engineers inspected the Nirankal Flood area however locals do not know what exact solution to the problem.
