PANAJI: In a shocking incident, a truck carrying laterite stones skidded into a under contruction sewage chamber at St Inez, injuring four labourers.
As per information, all the four labourers are natives of Agra, Uttar Pradesh and were working inside the STP chamber hole when the tragedy struck.
Two of the workers have been seriously injured, with one receiving severe head injuries have been shifted to the Goa Medical College (GMC) for treatment.
Fire and Emergency Service Officers were also roped in as diesel from the truck started leaking.
Escorts Hydra crane was pressed into service for removal of the truck.
Sources from the spot said that the truck driver was driving in a rough manner and immediatley fled from the scene after the accident.
“One of the labourer might be critical. As he has got head injuries,” sources said
Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate rushed to the spot after news about the accident spread.
“The ongoing work at the accident site is part of sewerage and road project under Smart City Mission,” said Mayor Rohit Monserrate who was present at the accident site.
