MARGAO: An intriguing development occurred on Friday evening when the Margao Municipal Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), who has been under investigation for allegedly embezzling Rs 17.44 lakh, deposited Rs 3 lakh in the municipal treasury.
The LDC’s action comes shortly after the Margao Municipal Council called for the start of both a recovery suit to recover the Rs 17.44 lakh in money as well as criminal proceedings against the negligent employee in an emergency meeting.
In the Margao Municipal corridor, there are concerns about whether the Chief Officer will file an official police complaint with the police on Saturday in response to the Municipal employee’s decision to deposit Rs 3 lakh in the Municipal treasury.
For the council members, Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar had informed them that the municipal lawyer had prepared and reviewed the police complaint. After receiving this submission, the Chief Officer was instructed by the Council to file a formal police complaint and discuss the issue with the municipal retainer.
Additionally, the council members had insisted that the Chief Officer send memos to the team members assigned to supervise the fair revenue collection for the Purumentachem fest.
