MARGAO: The South Goa Sessions Court on Friday sentenced the two laborers who were found guilty of killing their fellow worker in Velsao village in 2021 to life in prison.
Dinesh Kumar, an Odisha native, and Shivnath Mhaji, an Uttar Pradesh native, were found guilty and ordered to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 each by Judge Kshama Joshi.
In this instance, which took place on April 3, 2021, the Verna police were called to report that a fight involving several laborers had resulted in one of the laborers’ deaths. Additionally, the police were informed that one of the laborers had been apprehended by members of the public, while the other had managed to flee the scene. Lalu Singh was identified as the deceased laborer.
The dead body’s examination had shown that it had numerous bleeding wounds on its body and legs.
Judge Kshama Joshi noted, “I agree with the argument that it cannot be said to be a rarest of the rare case for granting death sentence and also considering the age of the accused,” as she handed down a life sentence to the two accused. The fact that the deceased was attacked with a wooden danda and suffered thirty injuries—all fatal and recent—to critical body parts, however, indicates that the accused knew the deceased was going to die.
Therefore, in my opinion, both of the accused should receive the minimum sentence of life in prison in addition to an order to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 each, which will act as
