CANACONA: At Talpona beach on Friday night, a 72-year-old British national drowned while his 68-year-old wife was saved by Dhristi Life Savers.
The UK nationals Vijay Tulshidas Daswani and his wife Gean Poole were swimming at Talpona beach, according to Canacona police.
They sounded the alarm as they started to drift into the sea. While Drishti Life Savers went on a jet-ski and pulled both ashore, others hurried to help them.
Vijay Daswani was pronounced dead by medical professionals at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Canacona, after both received CPR. There was no threat to Gean Poole.
As per the available information, Vijay, a UK national of Indian descent, tied the knot with Gean Poole just 18 months prior. According to the police, the couple had been vacationing in Goa for the previous fifteen days.
The post-mortem is scheduled for this Saturday, according to Canacona police. The body was sent to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao, and the foreign office has been notified.
Canacona PI Harish Raut Dessai is the direct supervisor of PSI Dwadesh Dessai, who is looking into the matter.
