Paraguay recorded a hard fought 1-0 win over Turkey despite finishing the match with ten men. The decisive moment came just 63 seconds after kick off when Matias Galarza struck from long range to give his side an early lead. The South Americans were later reduced to ten players after Miguel Almiron was sent off during first half stoppage time. Turkey pushed for an equaliser but failed to capitalise on late opportunities, becoming the second team after Haiti to be eliminated from the tournament. The result also confirmed the United States as winners of Group D.
The USA sealed qualification for the last 32 with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Australia. Scotland battled hard for an equaliser but could not break through Morocco’s defence. The result leaves Morocco in a strong position to progress, while Scotland may need a positive result against Brazil in their final group match to keep their campaign alive.
