VASCO: Vasco fire station office was temporarily shifted to the Disaster management shelter at Dabolim. The piling work of the new fire station project in Vasco is ongoing.
On Tuesday morning, the Vasco fire station in charge handed a letter to the Panchayat Minister and MLA of Dabolim constituency Mauvin Godinho.
On this occasion, Minister Godinho said that with the monsoon’s entry, there might be fire incidences, and attending to the fire stations play an important role. The Vasco fire station has been shifted to the Disaster management shelter at Dabolim. The shelter was built under world bank assistance.
He further said that these cyclone shelters were built in various places to help people in difficult times. Govt is doing a good work by doing so,” Godinho said.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said that the Mormugao taluka has several important establishments and infrastructures that make it crucial to have a fire station.
He further said that the piling work of the new fire station project is ongoing, and due to the wet mud, the fire personnel were facing difficulty in operating freely. But now tha they will be shifting at Cyclone shelter, they can work freely.
Vasco Fire station officer Francisco Mendes also said that due to the ongoing piling work, firefighters were having problems in movement, but now the contractor will be able to do work in a faster way once we vacate the existing old structure.
Commenting on the safety, Mendes said that last year they faced problems due to the lack of equipment, but now they have most of them. “There won’t be a shortage of staff as the recruitment in the Fire safety department is ongoing”, he added.
