PANAJI: Leader of Opposition Michael Lobo today has urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to act strongly against those trying to disturb the peace and create communal disharmony in our peace.
Lobo was reacting to Subhash Velingkar’s statement wherein he said that St Francis Xavier could not be called ‘Goencho Saib’.
“No amount of “awareness campaigns” will disturb the unity, peace, and communal harmony in our state. I urge the C.M. to act strongly against those trying to disturb the peace and create communal disharmony in our peace-loving state of Goa,” said Lobo.
He further said that Goa is known for its deep-rooted love, peace, and harmony amongst its people, irrespective of caste, creed, or religion.
“Goencho Saib St. Francis Xavier is revered not only by Catholics but for people of all faiths from within the state as well as the neighboring states and the world over,” he added.
Velingkar, yesterday in a press conference had argued that St Francis Xavier could not be called ‘Goencho Saib’ from the nationalist point of view and on humanitarian grounds. He had said that Goencho Saib was the creation of the colonial Portuguese.
