CORTALIM: Congress leader Olencio Simoes has demanded the immediate arrest of Abdul Kadar, owner of Kudroli Constructions Pvt Ltd in the Verna accident case.
Simoēs stated that the midnight accident occurred opposite SIVA company at Verna where 4 labourers died on the spot and 3 are in critical condition belonging to Kudroli Constructions Pvt Ltd.
These labourers were residing in a temporary hut constructed by the company along the national highway which is itself illegal and in contravention of law.
Simoēs stated that the workers who have been working here for 14 months for the construction of storm water drainage were not registered with the Labour department when questioned, which is itself a violation Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act, 1970 & Rules 1971.
Therefore we appeal to the government and labour department to immediately conduct inspections of all work tendered by government or private, specially contractual workers
in the State of Goa as most of the contractors/companies don’t follow the labour laws.
Simoēs also demanded that Kudroli Constructions Pvt Ltd all worked tendered by govt should be suspended and the company should be blacklisted with immediate effect and proper compensation should be provided by the company and the government for the victims.
