VERNA: Verna Police have arrested a Karnataka native on charges of impersonating a contractor inside Project Sea-Bird in Karwar and luring one to pay Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of giving a job in the Indian Navy.
The accused has been identified as Chetan Naik r/o Baina, Vasco n/o Kumta Karnataka disguised as Dinesh Bandekar r/o Baina Vasco.
According to Verna Police, the above noted accused person impersonated himself as a contractor inside the premises of Project sea bird in Karwar and, with his influence and High-level contacts, lured and induced the complainant to pay an amount of 5,00,000 INR on the pretext of giving the job to the complainant in the Indian Navy induced and lured the complainant and further fled away from Goa and was on the run since 2019.
However, there were n traces of the accused person found, and all-out efforts were made to trace the accused.
Further, upon detailed and professional technical surveillance with the assistance of Call Monitoring Cell of South Goa District, a house was located in Old Delhi Chandni Chowk slum area where it was suspected that the accused person had taken shelter.
A team led by PSI S. Kamat immediately reached Delhi and arrested the accused person in a late-night operation from the slum area of Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk, Priyadarshini Nagar, on the intervening night of October 5.
Interrogation of the accused is on to ascertain his involvement in any other crimes or any anti-national activities.
Meanwhile, the accused has been arrested under section 161/20 u/s 420 IPC.
