VASCO: Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai heard the complaints of Mormugao Taluka residents during a heated Janata Darbar in Vasco. The residents expressed a great deal of dissatisfaction with the current state of their community.
The people of Mormugao, who have three BJP MLAs representing them, feel abandoned and deceived, and the taluka is on the verge of a health catastrophe that has been dubbed a “ticking time bomb.”
The state government shows little sense of ownership or involvement in the taluka, with the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) functioning as the de facto ruler. Because of the lack of governance, “hafta” (extortion money) is accepted as normal in this setting.
“Goa govthas been creating and distributing lies about open coal handling and transportation while local Goemkars are being slow poisoned, and their health endangered,” said Vijai
Customary means of subsistence are seriously threatened. The absence of fishing jetties in Mormugao, in contrast to other areas, severely damages the local fishing sector. Owners of trailer parks have complained that there are insufficient subsidies, which makes it harder for them to remain in business. In addition, foreigners have taken the place of native transporters, purportedly to enable extortion.
The BJP’s reputation has been damaged by the increase in gambling activities; locals now call it the “Bharatiya Gambling Party” (BGP). This change portends a dismal future for Mormugao’s younger generation.
Speaking to the media, Vijay Sardesai promised to raise these concerns during the upcoming assembly meeting.
