PANAJI: In order to regularize the Goans’ houses built on communidade land, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the government would introduce a bill to amend the Code of Comunidade during the next winter session of the state legislative assembly.
“It is my firm belief that the regularization of Niz Goenkar’s houses is necessary. In order to safeguard their interests, the government will amend the revenue laws and the Comunidade Code, he stated.
Over 500 demolition notices have been issued in the Canacona Taluka. Additionally, more than 200 demolition notices have been issued in Aldona and 150 in Saligao.
“During my term as Chief Minister, I want to regularize these Niz Goenkars’ homes; the issue has been disregarded for many years. After the Portuguese left Goa, these Goans built their homes on comunidade land, and I want to preserve those homes. The Chief Minister said, “I want to regularize the houses, which makes some people jealous.”
“It is my firm belief that the regularization of Niz Goenkar’s houses is necessary. In order to safeguard their interests, the government will amend the revenue laws and the Comunidade Code, he stated.
He stated that the goal is to protect Goan homes, not to win votes.
Sawant restated that all community committees will be given the utmost confidence by the government regarding this issue.
He made it clear that the intention was not to regularize the homes of outsiders or those who had encroached upon comunidade land when he said, “I appeal to the comunidade committees to support the government in regularizing the houses of the Niz Goenkars.”
