CANACONA: ‘We for Palolem’ celebrated ‘World Environment Day’ on Wednesday by distributing over 200 Fruit bearing Saplings in the world-famous Palolem beach area.
In a Door-to-Door visit to several residential houses in Palolem, ‘We for Palolem’ members led by its president Gasper Coutinho handed over different types of Fruit bearing plants, requesting the residents to plant and take proper care of them till they grow big and give fruits.
The members reminded the residents of the urgent need to protect and beautify the environment around us and one of the best ways to protect and beautify nature is to plant as many trees as possible. ‘The trees help not only to cleanse but have the potential to maintain a healthy environment’, Coutinho, who is also South-Goa District (Congress) Organisation General Secretary, guided the residents.
Interestingly, before going door-to-door, the members came together and planted some fruit-bearing saplings in a few common lands, as part of World Environment Day celebrations.
Along With Coutinho, the Organization Secretary Rosario Fernandes, Antonio Pereira, Piedade Cardozo, Mercy Fernandes, Emilia Dias, Mariano Pereira, Ross Fernandes, and Joaquim Sequeira, amongst several other members were part of the celebrations.
The fruit-bearing saplings planted and distributed include Pomegranate, Love-Apple fruit (Jam), Guava, Cancer (path-points) fruit plants, Custard Apple, Beetle nut, Lemon, and Pepper Creepers, amongst a few more fruit-bearing plants.
