CALANGUTE/ BAGA/ ANJUNA – Lakhs of tourists descended in Goa on December 31 to usher in the New Year 2022.
The roads in Baga, Calangute, and other northern coastal belts were completely choked by the tourists’ vehicles, who had arrived in Goa despite the Covid19 fears.
It was shocking to see that despite the warnings issued by teh State and the Centre for following COVID19 norms, the caution was thrown to the wind.
There was no social distancing and mask even as the police officials watched as mute spectators.
“What can we do the tourists are in thousands, and how can we merely few personnel manage them?” asked one constable when asked for his comments on tourists.
Another policeman said there were merely there to see the traffic and any law and order
situation.
“We have been told to manage traffic and law and order if any, and there are no instructions for the penalising tourists for not following COVID19 norms,” he said.
Drunk Tourists…
After midnight, the party began in Goa, and the early morning was horror on the beach.
Hundreds of drunk tourists were seen lying drunk on the beaches. Loads of garbage of bottles, plastic and other was seen littered all over the coastline.
A few beach cleaning workers said that the waste is hundreds of times more than the regular daily waste.
“It will take some time for waste to be cleared,” said one worker.
However, the scene of the drunk tourists is one of the most shocking ones as locals and businesses said the Goa Tourism does not gain anything from such tourists.
“These tourists come in vehicles, sleep on the beach, eat on roadside cooking themselves and feast on cheap liquor in Goa. They only come here to drink,” said one businessman, who refused to be named.
