PONDA: Pondaitees are upset over the Government not holding the Carnival parade at Cultural City Ponda for reasons not known, and people say its injustice on Pondaitees when Carnival was organized for past many years, and it was uniting people of all communities why it is not happening this year.
When a big event takes place at Panajim. Margao, Mapusa and Vasco, why not in centrally located Ponda.
John Pareira, former Curti Khandepar Sarpanch, said that he feels this is an injustice to the minority community at Ponda.
He asked why the Carnival parade is organized at new places like Porvorim and other places and why it is not organized this year.
“Why is it not happening despite four Ministers in Taluka/” he asked.
Pereira said a similar case in 2019 where there was no sanction for Carnival; however, he, along with Ponda MLA and Agriculture Minister, had met Chief Minister, and finally, CM gave sanction for it and the Carnival parade was held.
Curti Khandepar Sarpanch Naved Tehsildar said all communities used to take part in the Carnival Float parade, and this year it is learnt that it is not happening in Ponda.
He said there are four Ministers in Ponda, and despite this, no Carnival, which is a surprising thing in Ponda.
He said all religious people used to come together and were used to take part in Carnival at Ponda. He said it should not halt, and Government should organize it at Ponda City.
Rita Peris, a Citizen at Ponda, said Carnival gives much scope for creativity for youth, adults, children, and artists, but this year we still need it.
