MARGAO: Sarvanand Bhagat, general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, stated that the party has acknowledged the mandate from the people of South Goa for the Lok Sabha and will shortly examine the reasons behind the party’s loss in the constituency.
But he didn’t take long to add that it would be premature for the INDI Alliance to envision itself leading Goa. He pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is forming the central government for the third time on June 9 and that the double-engine BJP government will finish the outstanding tasks before the Assembly elections in 2027.
In the presence of South Goa president Tulsidas Naik and BJP ST Leader Anthony Barbosa, the BJP general secretary told the media at the South Goa BJP district office that the party leadership will reflect on the disaster in South Goa.
“The South Goa seat was lost by the party by about 14,000 votes. “We acknowledge the people’s mandate,” he declared.
In response to claims made in some quarters that Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai’s remarks caused the BJP to lose, Bhagat said that no one should take pleasure in imbuing the decision with a religious bent. “Minister Phal Dessai has succeeded in giving the BJP a significant lead. He stated, “Those who attempt to place blame on the Minister ought to cease.”
Upon being alerted to the fact that the Goan people had once again shown the defectors whereabouts, Bhagat stated that the party would discuss all of these points during the introspection.
