CANACONA – Stating, government is committed to resolve and attend to various issues raised by the fishermen, Union Minister of State for Fisheries Purshottam Rupala assured upliftment of fishermen in the State of Goa through various schemes in force.
Union Minister of State for Fisheries Purshottam Rupala was speaking at the last leg of Sagar Parikrama-V program at Rajbag- Canacona which began at Raigad in Maharashtra on 17th May and culminated at Canacona on Friday.
‘Through Sagar Parikrama program, we got in touch with the traditional fishermen brothers and got to know their problems. In this program, since morning we saw Vasco jetty, met traditional fishermen and also visited the fish processing plant’. During this visit, Union Minister of State for Fisheries Parashottam Rupala said that he would try to solve the problems raised by the fishermen of Goa.
Sagar Parikrama- V campaign was started on Wednesday 17th in Raigad, Maharashtra and the program was concluded today at Rajbagh in Canacona.
On this occasion Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tavadkar, Goa Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar, Joint Secretary to the Government of India Dr. J Balaji, J. N. Swahayan, S. S. Gill, Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, along with senior officials of Indian Coast Guard, Indian Fisheries Survey, Maharashtra Maritime Board (Maharashtra da Maritime Board) and top officials of other organizations were present.
The objective of the fifth phase of this cycle is to understand the problems of fishermen and other fish traders and stakeholders in the Raigad(Maharashtra) to Canacona (Goa) belt, to uplift them by availing the various fisheries schemes and initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada (PMMSY) and Kisan Credit Card (KCC) informed Rupala.
Rupala further said that there are milk dairies in Gujarat and milk is available here in large quantity. ‘Breeding of cattle is important for getting milk and the concept dairy’s in Gujarat should be examined before one accepts dairy. ‘i would prefer to give maximum cooperation for the dairy’s’, Rupala said.
Cheques under the various schemes were distributed to teu fishermen and fisher women, some fisherfolks were given fish-storage boxes to store their fish.
Speaking on this occasion, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar said that in order to solve the unemployment problem in Canacona, milk dairy and mussel-farming, breeding of fish can overcome unemployment to some extent.
The Minister of Fisheries l Halarnkar said that the central government has organized the Sagar Parikrama program to understand the problems of the fishermen and to solve them.
‘There are various schemes of the Goa government for the fishermen’ Halarnkar also appealed to the fishermen to take advantage of it. On this occasion Union Minister of State for Fisheries Rupala was felicitated with a Kunbi shawl and a lamp of Goa at the hands of Halarnkar.
The program was moderated by Prof. Subhash Janani and Welcome address by Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar. On this occasion, Ashok Dhuri, President of Kshatriya Pagi Samaj, Rudresh Namshikar, Pramod Juvekar met the Minister Rupal and presented him with a list of demands and grievances
