PANAJI: The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress celebrated the Women’s day in the presence of President Bai Beena S. Naik, Vice President Sonal Malvankar, Quepem MLA Bab Altone D’costa, Curtorim Zilla Parishad Member Bai Michelle Rebelo, Key Note Speaker Jennifer Miranda & Goa Mahila Congress Functionaries.
President of GPMC Smt. Beena S. Naik welcomed the dignitaries & all the Mahilas & gave the report of the activities conducted by the Mahila Congress.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, while addressing all the Mahila Block Presidents, said that women are undoubtedly victims of discriminatory & regressive practices which are followed in the name of religion and customs.
He spoke about the five E’s – Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship & Equality/ Equity.
“Education will reimpose the mindset of the girls. Employment and entrepreneurship will contribute the economic and financial independence. He further said one should embrace equality. It is equity which eventually resides inequality,” he said.
Alemao suggested that equity can be promoted by schemes and programs for the protection of women.
“To raise women to the level of equality measures in terms of financial support special schemes of loans from banks, facilities for working mothers at the workplace, reservation in education, employment off course and n democratic politics,” he said.
On this occasion, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa said that men are mostly out of the house & it’s up to the mother to inculcate good values & teachings in their children.
He further said, “I respect my mother for the values she inculcated in me & that’s the reason I named all my hotels ‘Grace’ after her name, which is “Gracy”.
Mrs Michelle Rebello, a Zilha Panchayat member, greeted all the ladies.
She said that ladies have good hearts & that’s why they think of everyone equally.
Jennifer Miranda Spoke from SEBI spoke about how ladies can be, in their own way, entrepreneurs & self-sufficient.
Social Media State Chairman Mr Divyakumar Kandhar & State Social Co-ordinator Kiran Kumar guided ladies on how to work & handle various social media handles.
Ladies also had an entertainment programme highlighting the burning issues.
On this occasion, ladies who worked very hard were promoted to the Executive Committee & also appointment letters were given to the new Block appointees.
The whole programme was compered by Renuka Dessai & Lavinia Da’Costa.
