New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said Aligarh is set to emerge as a key centre for defence manufacturing and supply, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the Defence Manufacturing Corridor and giving the district a new development trajectory.
Speaking after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for 85 development projects worth over ₹462 crore in Aligarh, Kol and Municipal Corporation areas, the Chief Minister said the region was entering a new phase of industrial and economic growth. He stressed that the pace of development would continue uninterrupted under the government’s vision of infrastructure expansion and economic transformation.
Highlighting Aligarh’s industrial heritage, Adityanath said the city had earned international recognition through its lock and hardware industries and was now preparing to play a crucial role in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. He noted that the Defence Manufacturing Corridor had opened new opportunities for local industries and skilled workers, positioning Aligarh as a future hub for the production of defence equipment and strategic supplies.
The Chief Minister also reviewed ongoing development initiatives and said major infrastructure projects were progressing rapidly across the district. These include the expansion of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University, Smart City projects, road networks, healthcare facilities, educational institutions and transport infrastructure. He highlighted that projects worth nearly ₹2,800 crore have been approved for the region, alongside the construction of a six lane highway, ring road and several flyovers.
Paying tribute to freedom fighter Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, Adityanath acknowledged their contributions to shaping Aligarh’s identity and development.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister attended a public grievance hearing in Lucknow, where he directed officials to resolve complaints within fixed timelines. He reiterated that encroachment would not be tolerated and ordered immediate action in cases where illegal occupation of public land was confirmed.
Before concluding his visit, Adityanath reviewed progress at Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University and assured residents that development projects across Aligarh would continue to be accelerated in line with local needs and future growth plans.
