MOPA: Smuggled gold weighing 1.3 Kg was seized from a passenger at Mopa International Airport by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
The accused identified as Lalchand had arrived at Mopa from Abu Dhabi. He was found in possession of silver coated gold ring and bangles weighing 1.3 Kg. Worth of the seized gold is approximately around Rs 70 lakh.
An intelligence developed by the officers of Goa Regional Unit indicated that a passenger named Shri Lalchand travelling from Abu Dhabi to Goa on 11.12.2023, in Indigo Flight No. 6E 1506, will be smuggling gold.
The flight was scheduled to arrive at Manohar International Airport at 09:00AM. On baggage search of the passenger, Lalchand, nothing suspicious was found.
Thereafter, personal search of the passenger was conducted.
On inspecting the pants/trousers which Lalchand was wearing, it felt unusually heavy and on further screening in X-ray machine it was noticed that gold in paste form was concealed in it.
Further, during his personal search a gold ring and a bangle were also found which were coated in silver color to camouflage it as a silver Jewlery item. Total 1.3 kg of Gold was recovered from him. The said passenger was arrested by DRI. Further investigation is in progress.
