PANAJI: The state government will introduce a new scheme for Konkani and Marathi schools wherein 10% non-salary maintenance grants will be given for these schools, subject to the availability of funds with the Education department.
The earlier scheme of Rs 400 per student per month started under Education Medium Policy and was discontinued during covid pandemic.
Goa government had earlier announced a scheme related to the local language. The scheme, namely Goa Grant Scheme, will be launched to encourage the local language of the states, such as Konkani and Marathi.
The state government will implement National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 from this academic year at the foundation level, i.e. initial 5 years of education for the age group from 3 years to 8 years, announced Secretary Education Prasad Lolienkar.
“For foundation level one student, the academic year will commence on July 3. The month of June will be used for preparedness,” he informed.
The education will be imparted in play instead of books and focus on the child’s physical, cognitive, socio-emotional, moral and other overall development. There will be no exams, but the student will be evaluated after 5 years.
Teachers will be trained to execute the NEP curriculum. As per NEP 2020, education is divided into- foundation, i.e. first 5 years, 3 years of preparatory education, 3 years of middle level and 4 years of secondary level.
