New Delhi: The Government of Goa has trained 115 women under the Mahila Digital Shashaktikaran Yojana (MDSY), a digital literacy programme launched to equip women with essential technology skills and improve their participation in the digital economy.
Introduced on February 17, 2026, by the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C) and implemented through the Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd (ITG), the initiative seeks to provide women with practical computer knowledge, digital awareness and safe access to online services.
The scheme aligns with the vision of Narendra Modi and Pramod Sawant on strengthening women’s empowerment through digital inclusion.
Speaking about the initiative, Goa’s Information Technology Minister Rohan Khaunte described the programme as an effort to bridge the digital divide and ensure women from both urban and rural areas can confidently engage with technology.
“This is not just a scheme but a movement to ensure women have the skills, confidence and access needed to participate in Goa’s digital economy,” Khaunte said, highlighting the role of digital literacy in education, entrepreneurship and employment.
The programme is open to Goan women aged 18 years and above who have been residents of the state for at least 15 years. Training is conducted through IT Knowledge Centres (ITKCs), Common Service Centres (CSCs), panchayat halls and other local venues.
Participants receive hands-on training in areas such as smartphone usage, social media awareness, cyber safety, digital payments, online banking, e-commerce platforms and digital communication tools.
Women are also educated about online fraud, cybercrime prevention and methods to monitor and protect their families in the digital space.
Training sessions have already been conducted in Porvorim and Bicholim, with upcoming programmes scheduled in Banastarim, Sanquelim, Chodan and Pernem.
The government aims to train nearly 3,000 women annually through the scheme, helping create a more digitally aware and empowered society. Officials say the initiative is a key step toward ensuring that women are active contributors to Goa’s ongoing digital transformation rather than merely beneficiaries of it.
