BAMBOLIM: The Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) has strongly condemned the reported use of force against resident doctors and medical students during recent protests seeking education reforms.
In a press release issued on Monday, GARD described the visuals and reports emerging from the incident as “deeply distressing” and stated that healthcare professionals and medical students, who dedicate themselves to serving society, deserve an environment of safety, dignity, and respect.
The association said any act of violence against doctors is unacceptable and undermines the values of a democratic society. It expressed solidarity with all resident doctors, interns, and medical students affected by the incident and wished a speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries.
GARD urged the concerned authorities to conduct a fair, impartial, and time-bound inquiry into the incident and ensure accountability wherever excessive use of force is established. It also called for adequate measures to safeguard the security and dignity of healthcare professionals and medical students during peaceful demonstrations.
The association further appealed for the prevailing concerns to be resolved through meaningful dialogue and constitutional means. It also urged members of the medical fraternity to remain united, peaceful, and responsible while standing firmly for the safety and dignity of doctors across the country.
Reaffirming its commitment to resident doctors, GARD said it remains dedicated to protecting the rights, safety, and welfare of the medical fraternity and stands in solidarity with its colleagues during this difficult period.
