MAPUSA: Mapusa Police have registered a case after a 17-year-old allegedly riding a motorcycle without a valid driving licence hit a pedestrian near the Ganesh immersion site at Bastora on September 10.
The accident occurred at around 8.30 pm when the minor, riding a motorcycle bearing registration number GA-03-AN-5157, was travelling from Mapusa towards Moira via Bastora.
According to police, the minor rode the motorcycle in a rash and negligent manner without taking proper care and caution. On reaching near the Ganesh immersion site, the motorcycle allegedly dashed against Mantesh Gopal Chawan, 38, a resident of Porvorim.
Chawan sustained serious bodily injuries in the accident, while the minor rider also suffered injuries.
Police said the motorcycle’s registered owner, 49-year-old Jabiulla Jamal Aattar, allegedly knowingly permitted his minor son to ride the vehicle despite him not holding a valid driving licence.
Mapusa Police have registered offences under Sections 281, 125, 125(a) and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Sections 184, 180, 3, 4 and 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The complaint was lodged on behalf of the State by Head Constable Mahesh Mangesh Mayekar (B. No. 5462) of Mapusa Police Station.
